1986: The big news is behind the camera. In a world on the cusp of change, star anchor Helen and rookie reporter Dale join forces to survive the cut-throat world of commercial TV.

S01E01 Three Two One
Established co-anchor Helen Neville is sick of playing second fiddle to her colleague Geoff Walters and demands more as she and reporter Dale cover the Challenger Space Shuttle launch.

S01E02 Once in a Lifetime
The newsroom prepares for the return of Halley's Comet. Geoff asks Noeline to help with a speech for his 60th birthday, and Helen is failing to cover up her fragile mental health.

S01E03 The White Marquis Matinee Jacket
The newsroom gets a tip-off about Lindy Chamberlain's case. Dale and Helen rush to Darwin with a crew to try and get the first interview.

S01E04 A Step Closer to the Madness
Dale is asked to report on the announcement of a royal wedding, but plans go out of the window when a bomb detonates outside Melbourne Police HQ.

S01E05 No More Lies
Helen gets the green light for an interview with an HIV-positive mother and gives the assignment to Dale, but things go horribly wrong in the edit suite, leading to angry protests.

S01E06 Meltdown
Dale visits Helen's house to attempt a reconciliation, but finds his belongings on the doorstep. After a frosty few days of avoiding each other, work forces them back together.

S02E01 Decision '87
July 1987: As the country prepares for a vital general election, Dale, Helen and their colleagues at the News at Six have the pressure of an anticipated six hours of unbroken air time. Added to this pressure is their direct competition, headed up by none other than Geoff Walters, now making a well-publicised 'comeback' on a rival network.

S02E02 People Like You and Me
The country is rocked by an unprecedented mass shooting in Clifton Hill in Melbourne. The team rush to get footage onto air - but their judgement is called into question.

S02E03 Greed and Fear
As the global financial crisis mounts, Helen is plunged into free fall when a gossip journalist threatens an exposé about her troubled past. Dale feels helpless in his endeavours to fend off the impending article and turns to Gerry for advice

S02E04 The Hungry Truth
The hype is building for 1988 bicentenary. The News at Six team produce a patriotic promo as Geoff covers the First Fleet re-enactment for the rival network - which is interrupted by an Indigenous Australian activist. Helen is convinced that the protestor should provide a vital voice amidst the pageantry.

S02E05 A Model Daughter
News is approached by Geoff's daughter Kay with the offer of an exclusive. Lindsay sees this as an opportunity for an end-of-year show-stopper, but Helen is shocked at the depth of Kay's desperation.

S02E06 Fireworks
As the team prepare for the biggest event of the year, Australia Day 1988, with the re-enactment of the First Fleet sailing into Sydney Harbour and ceremonies with Prince Charles and Princess Diana, personal and professional dilemmas abound. Helen prepares for a new job in the US, and Dale faces a crisis as he is asked to help a friend in trouble.
