This tale is about a Scottish chap who wanders off to Uganda (East Africa) after
deciding against Canada instead for a series of sexual encounters (which we
see get him in deep trouble with the dictator there who is quite personally
affronted by this fellas affair with his wife). James McAvoy wins the prize
for best actor for this role at the Scottish Film awards, while the chap who plays
the Idi Amin role (President of the Republic back then) took home an Oscar for his
prize instead.

We learn that McAvoys character (a doctor no less) is quite careless in his
dealings and naive about his prospects to win over the people surrounding
him there to his ideas in any respect - including his plea to return back to
Scotland after panicking at some point there.

What terrible violence befalls him there and brutal torture as he likely could
never have envisioned perhaps in getting involved as he does in the affairs
there.

A lot of imagery of the African continent is depicted in the movie quite
realistically i would say in regards to Uganda around this time in any event.

I love seeing Miss Gillian Anderson in this movie. She has German-Irish roots
and is beautiful to look at anywhere on the planet of course. She is expressing
a strong desire to withdraw from the gathered crowd there early on, while
McAvoys character chooses rather foolishly perhaps to "linger a couple of
minutes longer" with the crowd shown.

Shows just how wrong a person can be about where and when to get involved
with situations on the planet evolving as they did around Idi Amin's tenure
in particular.
